 2018 Preview

Elmore County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Elmore County finished seventh in Class 4A region three with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 2000. The Panthers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year.

Elmore County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Panthers want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.2 points a game.

Since 2010, Elmore County has gone a combined 37-45. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Elmore County has managed to compile a record of 124-132. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 4A and 207th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Jordan Cantrell as they enter the 2018 season.

Coach Cantrell's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 25-20 (55.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Cantrell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

The Elmore County Panthers will play in Class 4A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 4A but move from region three over to region four.

Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Elmore County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Panthers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Marbury on Friday, August 31 at Marbury Stadium. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 48-6.

Elmore County and Marbury have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 8-4-1 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1971 with the teams battling to a 0-0 tie.
